This is an enhanced podcast about The Toddler Machine by the artist Heather Freeman. This enhanced podcast is unique because it's a conversation between two girls. In this podcast these two girls talk about the artwork The Toddler Machine. They talk about not only Freeman statement but also about they think.
In the middle of the podcast the girls do some research on The Toddler Machine. They find out what the piece is about and what it is made of.
The videos I collected are from my family's farm located in Old Fort, Ohio. We like to call our homestead and farm, Stacy Farms. My father, Douglas Stacy, is the self employed farmer that operates the farm with the help of my brother and I. I have been helping my father on the farm ever since I have been able to help, beginning in the sixth grade. Living and working on a family farm has taught me about responsibility, discipline, hard work, and commitment. These reasons are my I choose to take videos of Stacy Farms, because I want to show others what my background is and how it has developed me.
How I showed these aspects was through videos of me giving the 40 head of cattle we raise a straw bale. (This chore I do quite often.) I showed the process I take every time I must complete this task. Getting the skid loader out of the barn, picking up the bale, cutting the strings on the bale, flipping the bale over with the skid loader, and then spreading it around with a pitch fork. As I was filming I did not run into any problems, however I had no idea how these videos were going to form an interesting podcast, but it did...
Some of the things that attracted me to film were the cattle themselves (running, walking, breathing, etc), the noise of the skid loader, the work of taking the strings off the bale, and the work I had to do spreading the bale around. These actions attracted me because I wanted to show others what I do when working on the farm.
After I collected these videos I manipulated them into a factual video about agriculture in Ohio, cattle production, and family farm operations. I selected true agriculture facts and posted them throughout the video. Instead of a voice recording, I wanted to do text. That way when viewers read the quotes they will be able to get the full effect with the sounds from the farm in the background.
Rapheal Perret is a very interesting artist because he's not the typically artist that just paints and makes sculpture; he is an artist that works with technology. Technology being computers, robots, and cameras. And I think this is very neat because technology is very important in our lives today. Technology is what Podcasting is all about!
Some of Perrets' art works are about movement. He said there are two things that make up movement: the person or object moving itself and the surroundings of that thing. (The surroundings being the space near that thing.) I think this is very interesting to interpret because I wouldn't have thought of the space around an object to be part of the movement for say.
Another piece of work he showed us that was interesting to me was his mats on the floor. Where people could step on the mats and make lines with their feet and it would be projected to a big screen, making a pattern. Then eventually this pattern could be knitted onto fabric. I would like to of tried this out and made my own pattern!
Other works of his that I thought were interesting were the visual arts; the people dancing and or fighting. When he showed the video of the man dancing (doing flips) I was very interested! I was even more interested when he showed us the white ghost subject he made on the computer and the white sculpture model he made...all from that one man dancing. I never would have thought you could do so much, through technology, with one person busting a move!
The three works of art that I enjoyed the most from the opening of his show on January 19th were as follows: 1.Toddler Machine by Heather Freeman 2.Lines of Life by Jody Zellen 3.Bulletproof Skin
With the sounds I found in Ovalwood I made this piece called Hospital Conversation. The sounds that interested me the most and the ones I wanted to use for this project were the sounds from my own footsteps, the conversation between the professor and a student, the elevator beeping, and the beep noise that I generated from Audacity.
In this piece there is a constant beeping noise. (Which is the elevator beep; that I repeated over and over.) This beeping noise is the beeping noise you would hear at a hospital. (The noise that comes from the patient's room from the monitor, if they were hooked up to one.) Along with this beeping noise is a conversation between two people. This conversation is between a man and a women about a recent car accident the man was in. The man talks about what is still hurting on his body and how his baby and wife are recuperating from the accident.
As this conservation is going on, footsteps are in the near distance. Showing the effect of people walking in the hospital. Another effect I added to this piece is a beeping noise. This beeping noise is like the noise you would also hear on a patient's monitor. But this noise is a constant beep that is only in the beginning and the end of this piece. (This beeping is what I generated from Audacity.)
The mood of this piece is somewhat sad but it makes you interested in the conversation at the same time. As the man talks you will want to listen closely to what he is saying. This will help you understand why this piece is called Hospital Conversation.
The piece that I chose to listen to was by the artist KPHB in Soundlab II.
I chose this piece because it was very interesting to me. This is because I liked the up beat rhythmic beat it had. I thought it reminded me of a game show. Like the music that would be playing while the participants were thinking of their answer. Or the music that would be playing in between questions or answers.
This piece also made me think of a movie. I feel like this piece of work could be in a scene when characters are on a mission. For instance, when characters in a movie are in a deep hunt to finding someone or when they are focused on doing something, whether that be a math problem or solving a mystery.
This piece made me focus, due to the rhythm it had.

For my ten minutes of silence, I choose to sit in my car at a gas station. This gas station is located in a small town near my hometown. This gas station is at the corner of two roads, where there is a stoplight at this interesting. My two front windows were down and I listened to all the different sounds this small town was occupied by.
I heard the constant sound of vehicles. The buzzing of cars driving by, the loud trucks starting up, the sharp sound of vehicle doors opening and closing, and even the quick sound of tires turning on pavement. I also heard the pitch of some squeaky cars and trucks and the buzzing of dings when a drivers door is open. These sounds reference that this location is in a small town and that people are always coming and going. These sounds are relative to me because they remind me of home, a small town.
These sounds do not really inspire a sense of mood but they reminded me of a dream. When the sounds were soft and when I didn't hear much, the dream was calm. When I heard loud noises like the trucks running and the doors slamming, the dream was at it's climax or at a violence scene.
While I was listening to the sounds of vehicles at the gas station I realized how sounds flow together. When one sound stopped, another one started. For instance, at one point I heard the sound of a car drive away and as soon as the sound was far in the distance I heard a squeaky truck. I also realized that sounds overlap, and for the most part they all seemed to fit together. I would hear the piercing sound of tires turning on the pavement and during that time I would also hear the loud sound of car doors closing. However, when there were silences in between distinct sounds, I realized that this is what breaks up time.
